Hand grinders are the secret weapon of pour over coffee. They're portable, affordable, and when chosen well, they grind as consistently as electric models costing 3-5 times more. This guide helps you choose the right one.
Grind quality matters more than you think. Pour over is an unforgiving brew method — grind inconsistency shows up immediately as uneven extraction. Fines (tiny coffee dust) clog the filter and cause bitter, astringent flavors. Boulders (oversized particles) stay underextracted and sour.
