FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about BrewMark — from how the grind index works to what data we collect.

01

What is BrewMark?

BrewMark is a coffee dial-in journal that helps you brew better coffee, bag by bag. Track your grind setting, dose, and extraction — and get smart suggestions on what to adjust next. Available free on iOS with an AI brew coach you can bring your own model to.

02

How does BrewMark work?

Start a new bag, enter your coffee and equipment, then log each brew. BrewMark carries forward your last settings so you can make one adjustment at a time. The app tracks your extraction feedback (sour, bitter, balanced) and suggests grind or dose changes. Over time, it learns your taste preferences across different coffees and methods.

03

What grinders does BrewMark support?

BrewMark supports a wide range of popular home grinders including Baratza Encore, Baratza Virtuoso+, Comandante C40, 1Zpresso JX and JX-Pro, Timemore C2 and C3, Fellow Ode and Ode Gen 2, Eureka Mignon series, Niche Zero, and many more. Each grinder's settings are mapped to our universal 0–100 grind index so recipes translate accurately between different equipment.

04

What is the grind index system?

The grind index is a universal 0–100 scale that normalizes grind settings across different grinders. A Comandante at 24 clicks, a Baratza Encore at 14, and a 1Zpresso JX at 2.4 turns might all map to the same grind index value. This lets BrewMark translate recipes between any supported grinder — so a recipe that works on one grinder gives you the right starting point on yours.

05

Which brew methods are supported?

BrewMark supports pour-over methods (V60, Chemex, Kalita Wave, Origami, Melitta), immersion methods (French Press, AeroPress, Clever Dripper), espresso (manual and machine), cold brew, Moka Pot, and Turkish coffee. Each method has tailored parameters and guidance for dialing in.

06

Is BrewMark free?

Yes — BrewMark is free to download and use on iOS. The core dial-in journal, grind suggestions, and bag tracking are all free. The AI brew coach feature lets you bring your own AI model (Claude, GPT, or any OpenClaw-compatible model) for personalized coaching.

07

What is the AI brew coach?

The AI brew coach is a bring-your-own-model feature that gives you personalized brewing advice based on your brew history. Connect your preferred AI model (Claude, GPT, or any model via OpenClaw) and get specific recommendations for improving your next cup based on your equipment, coffee, and taste preferences.

08

How does BrewMark handle my data and privacy?

Your brew data is stored locally on your device by default. If you create an account, your data syncs securely so you can access it across devices. We never sell your data or share it with third parties. The AI brew coach feature sends brew context to your chosen AI provider only when you explicitly ask for coaching — and you control which model and provider is used.

09

What is the Roaster Portal?

The Roaster Portal is a free tool for specialty coffee roasters to publish structured brew recipes for their coffees. Roasters create a profile, add their coffees, and attach recommended recipes with specific grind, dose, water, and timing parameters. These recipes are then discoverable by BrewMark users and automatically adapted to their equipment.

10

How do roaster recipes get adapted to my grinder?

When a roaster publishes a recipe, it includes a grind setting for a specific grinder. BrewMark's grind index system automatically converts that setting to the equivalent on your grinder. So if a roaster recommends Comandante 26 clicks for a V60 brew, and you have a Baratza Encore, BrewMark will show you the matching Encore setting.
