Kinu M47 Classic vs Kinu M47 Phoenix
Two Kinu models whose numbers do not mean the same thing. Both count 100 clicks — and the same number is not the same grind.

| M47 Classic | M47 Phoenix | |
|---|---|---|
| Brand | Kinu | Kinu |
| Scale | Clicks | Clicks |
| Dial range | 0 clicks – 100 clicks | 0 clicks – 100 clicks |
| Burrs | Conical | Conical |
| Espresso → filter | 35 clicks | 35 clicks |
| Filter → coarse | 40 clicks | 40 clicks |
The same number means different things
Both grinders use a clicks, which makes it tempting to copy a number straight across. Setting 50 clicks sits at grind index 47 on the M47 Classic but 47 on the M47 Phoenix — close, but worth checking.
Converting a setting
If a recipe quotes a setting for one of these grinders, read across for the equivalent on the other. Rows are spaced evenly by grind size, not by dial number — on a conical burr those are not the same thing.

The shape of each dial
Where the connectors bunch, that grinder’s dial is compressed and single steps count for more. Comparing the two shapes tells you which gives finer control, and where.
Kinu M47 Classic
Kinu M47 Phoenix
Dialing in the M47 Classic
A heavy, precision-built hand grinder with stepless adjustment and genuine espresso capability. The lack of detents means repeatability depends on your own reference marks — the settings here are targets rather than clicks.
Dialing in the M47 Phoenix
The Phoenix is the more affordable M47 with the same burr set and grind character in a simpler body. Dial behaviour matches the Classic closely enough that notes transfer between them.
