How batch brew works
A larger dose means a deeper bed, and water takes longer to move through it. That extra contact time is why batch brew sits a touch coarser than a single-cup drip.
Even saturation is the whole game at this scale. Most batch brewers have a fixed showerhead pattern, so dose and grind are what you have to work with.
Brewed volume holds temperature and keeps extracting in the pot. Serve within about half an hour; after that the difference is obvious.
When it tastes wrong
Grind finer, or increase the dose slightly.
Grind coarser, and check the bed is being wetted evenly across its whole surface.
The common mistake
Scaling a single-cup recipe linearly and keeping the same grind. Bigger batches need a coarser grind, not just proportionally more coffee.
