The same number means different things
Both grinders use a clicks, which makes it tempting to copy a number straight across. Setting 12 clicks sits at grind index 0 on the JX-Pro but 36 on the Chestnut X — far enough apart to change the cup.

Dialing in the JX-Pro
External adjustment makes this the easiest hand grinder to actually dial, because you can count clicks without disassembling anything. Its filter range is generous, which is a mixed blessing — small click changes do less than you expect at the coarse end and more than you expect near espresso. Move in larger jumps for French press, single clicks for anything under filter.
Dialing in the Chestnut X
A step up from the C-series in both burr size and build, with a wider genuinely usable range. It reaches espresso more convincingly than any of the cheaper Timemores while staying comfortable for filter.
